Jourdaine Fletcher back to his best
IN HIS first Jamaica Premier League (JPL) start this season, Mount Pleasant's Jourdaine Fletcher netted his first goal of the campaign against Cavalier on Friday.
The former Cornwall College ace turned in a man-of-the-match performance in his team's 3-2 win, and he declared that he has been putting in a lot of hard work in recent weeks and is back to his best.
"My performance today (Friday) was great. We have put in a lot of hard work, and that is why we were victorious today.
"At the moment, I am feeling very great, and all of what I am doing now is through hard work. So all I can say is Jourdaine Fletcher is back," he said.
The 23 year-old is looking forward to becoming a regular in the starting line-up for his club.
"Yes, I am getting there, but there is still a lot more work to be done," he insisted.
Mount Pleasant's technical director, Walter Downes, said Fletcher has shown significant improvement in his attitude to training and contribution in games.
He said the forward was most deserving of his start on Friday and was pleased he took the opportunity with both hands.
"He has been banging on the door to get into the team. He has worked hard on his fitness and has been a real team player.
"He came off the bench a couple times and has been a game changer for us, and today (Friday) was the day when he deserved his chance to start, and I like when a kid takes his chance, and I am very pleased with his goal," he said.
Fletcher scored over 30 goals to lead Cornwall College to their first daCosta Cup title in 15 years in 2016.
In his first Premier League season in 2016-2017, he scored on his debut for Montego Bay United to salvage a 1-1 draw for the St James club. It was his only goal of that season.
He went on to play briefly for San Jacinto College before transferring to Eastern Florida State College in the USA but returned home to play for Montego Bay in 2018, when he bagged four goals that season.
In 2019, he moved to Mount Pleasant Football Academy and had his best season in the top flight, scoring six goals, including a memorable equaliser in the semi-final against Portmore United that year.
Fletcher also made his senior international debut in 2017 and has scored one goal in three appearances for the Reggae Boyz.
