World Under-20 Championships Douglas, Card win silver medals

Jamaica’s Shanoya Douglas and Gary Card won silver medals in the respective 100 metres finals at the World Under-20 Championships at the Hayward Field Stadium in Eugene, Oregon, last night.

American sprinter Tate Taylor won the men’s 100m gold in 9.94 seconds, defeating Card, who took silver with a strong performance, in 10.05 seconds.

South Africa’s Marko Ferreira took the bronze in 10.16 seconds.

Card had the strongest start, but was caught mid-race by American Tate, who pulled away for an impressive win.

In the women’s 100m final, Mia Maxwell (USA) won gold in 11.14 seconds, while Jamaica’s Douglas claimed silver in 11.17 seconds.

It was the American runner, Maxwell, who broke first in the women’s final and held off Douglas, who battled all the way to the finish.

Kelly Ann Maevane Doualla Edimo of Italy claimed the bronze medal in 11.27.

Jamaica’s second entrant in the women’s final, Theianna-Lee Terrelonge, finished sixth in 11.37 seconds, one place behind Maxwell’s twin, Mariah, who clocked 11.35.
