Some schools to reopen days after Hurricane Melissa
Minister of Education Dr Dana Morris Dixon says some schools are set to reopen just days after Hurricane Melissa battered the island.
The announcement was made during a press briefing on Thursday. Morris Dixon explained that only schools least affected by the hurricane will resume classes at this time.
She added that an emergency plan is being developed for students in the hardest-hit parishes -- Westmoreland, Hanover, Trelawny, St James, and St Elizabeth -- many of which remain without power.
The Minister stressed that the government's immediate priority is delivering food and restoring access to these communities before shifting focus to the full reopening of schools.
