Woman says Tinder date held her at gunpoint, raped her
What began as an online romance through the Tinder dating app allegedly turned into a terrifying ordeal for a 43-year-old woman after a man she met on the platform reportedly abducted her at gunpoint, raped her at a Portmore motel and robbed her before abandoning her in St Andrew.
The accused is 33-year-old Demoy Rayon Pennington, a bar operator of Tremelsworth district, St Mary.
Pennington was charged on Tuesday, June 30, with forcible abduction, rape and robbery with aggravation following an investigation by detectives in St Catherine.
According to police reports, the complainant met Pennington through the Tinder app in early April 2026. Investigators said he allegedly pretended to know her and the two continued communicating until they agreed to meet at about 3 p.m. on April 25 along Hagley Park Road in St Andrew.
The woman reportedly boarded Pennington's motor car and was driven towards Portmore, St Catherine.
Police said that during the journey, the complainant questioned Pennington about where he was taking her. It is alleged that he threatened her after brandishing a handgun.
Investigators said the woman was taken to a motel along Port Henderson Road in Portmore, where Pennington allegedly rented a room and raped her.
After the incident, the complainant was reportedly driven back to the Corporate Area, where Pennington allegedly stole her handbag containing bank cards and a cellular phone before driving away.
The matter was reported to the police and an investigation was launched.
Pennington was later arrested in June, placed on an identification parade and positively identified by the complainant.
Following a question-and-answer session, he was formally charged.
