Whitmore confident Mt Pleasant can beat SV Robinhood in CFU semi-final

When Mount Pleasant Football Academy take to the field in the semi-final of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Shield, head coach Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore is expecting a strong challenge from SV Robinhood of Suriname.
Mt Pleasant will face SV Robinhood for a spot in the final today at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Trinidad, with kickoff set for 12:30 p.m.
Mt Pleasant will not only be playing for a spot in the final of the CFU Club Shield, but they will also be competing for a spot in the Concacaf Caribbean Cup.
Speaking ahead of today’s game, Whitmore said he expects SV Robinhood to prove to be their toughest opponents yet.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge. We’re up against a very good, experienced team, a team that is familiar with this competition, a good ball-playing team,” Whitmore said.
“We have seen them, and we have had enough in our locker room to counter whatever they come with tomorrow.”
Mt Pleasant should have opened their Club Shield campaign in the Round of 16 against All Saints United of Antigua and Barbuda, but their opponents withdrew from the competition due to financial constraints.
Mt Pleasant then opened their campaign in the quarterfinals against Weymouth Wales of Barbados, where they eked out a 1-0 win through a goal from Jeudy Johnson.
SV Robinhood have played one more game than Mt Pleasant, defeating St Lucian Club Le Clery 2-0 in the Round of 16, before turning back Slingerz FC of Guyana 4-0 in the quarterfinals.
“The good thing is that we have gotten a game under our belt, so we’re in much better physical condition, game-ready condition. So we’re up for the task,” Whitmore said.
In the other semi-final, Puerto Rican club Metropolitan will face off against Delfines del Este of the Dominican Republic.
