Caught my niece and nephew having sex

Dear Pastor,

I live with my boyfriend. I am 30 and he is 31. We are living in an area that we do not like, but we are here because we can't do better.

I have a 16-year-old nephew who lives with us. He is a good boy. He goes to high school and his reports are very good. I have a niece who was always begging me to allow her to spend some time with us. But I was always telling her that we do not have space.

One day, my boyfriend heard me talking to her and he told me to tell her that she can come. I asked him where would she sleep and he said that she could sleep in our bedroom. So I told her to come. She was so excited. We picked her up downtown because it was the first time she was coming to Kingston. She and my nephew went everywhere because he is a Kingston boy. I told her to be very careful. We made sure that she had money. My boyfriend gives my nephew money every week. He fed my niece with fast food out of that food. She told me how much she enjoyed herself. We kept the sleeping arrangement going. My boyfriend slept in the living room and my niece and I slept on the bed. She used our bathroom. She was not ashamed to strip in front of me to enter the bathroom. I had to tell her that she could take off her clothes when she goes into the bathroom.

After she had spent a week with us, she asked us if she could stay a little longer. I did not want to agree, but my boyfriend said she is a country girl and she is not in school, so we could let her stay. I thought nothing of it. One evening, my boyfriend and I went out. We left my nephew and my niece at the house. While we were out, I did not feel well, so I told my friends I wanted to go home. My boyfriend said that I should wait a little longer. One of my girlfriends who drove suggested that she would take me home. I sat down for a while and I felt much better. Anyhow, I could not enjoy myself very well, so after a while I told my boyfriend that he should take me home and come back to the event and he agreed.

I got the shock of my life when I got home. All the lights were on, but my niece was in my nephew's bed half naked. They were having sex and they did not even hear me when I came in. The bedroom door was wide open. I asked "What are you all doing?" and my nephew jumped off my niece; neither answered me. I took up a broom and decided to beat my niece. But my nephew said "No Aunty, please, it is my fault." I told my niece that she should get the 'F' out of here in the morning. I did not allow her to sleep in my room. I told her "You are a big woman doing big people thing, so you have to go to your yard."

When my man came home, I told him what I saw and he called the teens and spoke to them. They disappointed me. I found out that my niece started to have sex from she was 14 but her mother did not know. My nephew told my boyfriend that he has had sex before with one of his schoolmates. I blame myself for agreeing to let my niece stay at the house even when my boyfriend said that she could come.

Dear B.M.,

I understand why you feel that you should take the blame, but it was your boyfriend who encouraged you to let your niece come.

Your boyfriend and you left them in your house without supervision. But as young teenagers, and realising that they were cousins, they should not have engaged in sex. My niece became sexually active at a very young age and her mother was not even aware of it. I am going to ask you to forgive your niece. If you had beaten her with the broom stick, that does not mean that she would never engage in sex for a long time. Your nephew was too bright. Perhaps if anyone deserved a beating it should have been him because he said that he was the one to be blamed. You can have your niece visit, but whenever she is, your nephew should not be around. These young people are naughty, but you should be glad that your niece did not get pregnant.
